Fatherhood

by Samantha Sasenarine, 2019

Reluctant,
To stretch your black arms
Around her hollow body
because of your insolence.
Unable to truly love you
Another child is born into the world.

Unprepared,
For fatherhood
Striding for survival
next to your wife.
Who despises you in silence
Early mornings you wake
Long nights you anticipate.

Ashamed,
That you cannot
Carry the weight
Of a little brown girl
That God skinned
From his flesh
just for you.
